BAUM - HENDRIKE SCHARMANN

There has been harvested.
The seed has sprouted.
Ramifications.
Countless influences
But strong roots.
Here, everything flows together into one tree.
Reaching for the sun.
Exposed to its environment, the seasons. Exposed for you.

After a period of traveling Hendrike Scharmann planted a fragile but solid tree right in her basement in Brussels. She started to create sound landscapes planting melodies and harmonies, letting them grow until they started to move with the wind. As found in nature disorder and structure meet as well as coincidence and predestined forms.
Her music floats between eclectic ambient, experiment and stubborn pop fragments, using violin, voice, guitar, synths, oud and more.
This is accompanied by homemade visuals.

PABLO'S EYE

Pablo’s Eye is an international collective of musicians and artists who share a vision to make magic through music. 2019, coincidentally, marks the 30th year of Pablo's Eye's loose existence. Back in the 1990s, Pablo's Eye were signed to Swim~ records and Extreme records but the project was relatively dormant in its recorded output throughout the 2000s until 2018, when Ziggy Devriendt began curating a series of 3 anthologies volumes for his Stroom〰 heritage label one of which 'Bardo for Pablo' received a glowing review on Pitchwork – and the coveted banner of 'Best New Reissue.'

Brussels-based producer and founder member Axel Libeert on keyboards & sound devices will be performing with recent collaborator Hendrike Scharmann aka BAUM on violin, voice and synth. A perfect combination for bringing Pablo's Eye's music live. Sampled sounds, electronics as well as acoustic instruments have always been a strong part of the sound of Pablo's Eye.

Abel Ghekiere

About that magic circle

The sextet About that Magic Circle, founded by Mostafa Taleb in 2018, takes its name from a poem by Persian mystic Hafez. Inspired by the four elements—earth, water, air, and fire—along with the breath (the soul), the ensemble (kamancheh, tar, cello, violin, double bass, percussion) explores their impact on human nature, drawing heavily from Persian literature.
Taleb’s interest in the elements began in 2016 after reading Mosibatnâme by Attar, where a seeker asks each element for wisdom, only to find that none can stand alone. This sparked a reflection on their role in mythology, human existence, and the balance between chaos and harmony.
Since his debut album Unity, Taleb has sought musical harmony in a fragmented world. About that Magic Circle aims to reunite these elements through music, bringing beauty and balance to life’s ever-turning cycle.

Gaiko + BAUM

GAIKO tries to convey the feelings of club music into intricate dreamlike compositions. His productions are inspired by the dance floor but meant to listen to on your living room couch. This is an ambitious form of dance music tying together a multitude of genres like idm, jungle, garage, breakbeat, hard dance, trance, and grime. Taking incentives from these different entry points, he converts them together into a gut reaction.

BAUM is a multi instrumentalist, violinist and singer based in Brussels inspired by music from around the globe and a member of ambient, synth duo ‘Pablo’s Eye’. In her solo project, she creates electro-acoustic sound landscapes interwoven with
eclectic voices, spoken word and field recordings. Accompanied by homemade visuals this creates a unique universe. With the use of spoken word, violin, voice, guitar, ud and synthesizers, the music of BAUM floats between stubborn pop fragments and ambient sounds adopting Indian and middle eastern influences.

The live project of GAIKO brings his recent club productions into an electro-acoustical set-up. Using violin, vocals, a piano and two reel to reel tape recorders, both GAIKO and BAUM create organic soundscapes that also allow free improvisation. The intention is to immerse the audience into a seamless transition between electronic music and acoustic soundscapes.

PHENOMENAL WOMAN (music theater)

It's in the reach of my arms,
The span of my hips,
The stride of my step,
The curl of my lips.
I’m a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman
(Maya Angelou)

BOTANICAL BODIES

Botanical Bodies revisits the music of Hildegard von Bingen in a bold and contemporary encounter. This 12th century visionary, healer, botanist, feminist and composer not only created fascinating works of vocal music while being tormented by migraines, these sufferings were at the source of her heavenly inspirations. For this reason the abbess is a key figure in the doctoral research on migraine music, by singer Mariske Broeckmeyer. Together with violinist, singer Hendrike Scharmann, Broeckmeyer brings together a group of musicians with the same fascination for the uncanny in a performance that reinterprets Von Bingen's music through free improvisation and an electroacoustic set-up.
